Iron Maiden are hardy survivors of the first wave
of British metal bands, hitching their image early on to their beloved, if
creepy, mascot Eddie, the grinning ghoul hatched for their apocalyptic album
covers and integrated into their stage sets. Apart from landing on a striking
twist on puppetry for Eddie's most elaborate onstage manifestations, Maiden
sidestepped having to wear ludicrous costumes or resort to mascara.
Unsurprisingly, the band is very much alive and kicking, having just released
the live "Flight 666" on DVD, CD and even vinyl.
